Since I meditate on the Word of God, I find favor in the eyes of God and man. My steps are ordered by the Lord, for His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Therefore, I walk in divine appointments that supply all my needs according to His riches in glory.

I don’t merely “run into” prospective clients. It’s not simply because I network, make calls, market online, receive referrals, or host workshops. It’s not even because I’m a member of Kingdom Business Fellowship or River Clermont.

I do these things because I have been blessed with God’s favor—and I seek to be a blessing to others.

I can start by sharing a saying my mom repeated to me constantly when I was a child:

“Tell me who you hang out with, and I’ll tell you who you are.”

Those words followed me every time I stepped out onto the streets of New York City during my elementary school years in the 1960s. My mother knew exactly what was waiting outside our door. Raising two boys in a one-bedroom apartment and keeping us indoors all summer wasn’t easy, so she made sure that one truth was firmly planted in our minds: the company you keep will shape your future.

At the time, I didn’t realize how deep that wisdom really was. But looking back now, I understand something I couldn’t see then—my mother had summarized Scripture in a single sentence.
